¡Dura! is a new series dedicated to the roots & future sounds of Salsa Dura in NYC and around the globe. Led by a collaborative crew of heavy selectors and deep crates that includes Monk-One & E’s E of Greenwood Rhythm Coalition, Christian Martir of Pa’lante NYC and Ridegwood’s Boogieman. The team promises to touch on the many styles and influences of Salsa that have been circualting on record from the 1960s until now.
Expect a heavy dose of of original Salsa Dura, Guaganco, Descarga, Bugalú, Bomba and more.
Continuing the musical bridge set forth by the crew of DJs, a special one-time only performance teams the rising NYC Psychedelic Salsa band La Mecánica Popular with guest vocalist Benny “Mr. Nice” Vargas.

A living legend in Salsa’s underground scene, Benny Vargas has spent the last six decades killing stages worldwide with some of the heaviest salsa New York City has ever produced. In 1969 he and his crew of Brooklyn Boricuas dropped the now renowned album Amaral Records presents Dax Pacem. The record has gone on to become a classic among fans and viewed as a holy grail among Latin vinyl collectors. Throughout his iconic career Benny has worked with everyone from Hector Lavoe to Louie Vega to Marc Anthony. He now continues that legacy of great salsa produced in the planet of Brooklyn by joining La Mecánica Popular for a special night guaranteed to be legendary!
