So this week was spent running around NYC w/ Oakland-based by way of Panama phenoms and comedians {i came to get to realize more}, Los Rakas. They won the LAMC {Latin Alternative Music Conference} ‘Discovery Award’ prize (Gibson, Shure, Blank CD prizes – yay!) and have been rocking all over town painting the town RAKA: Santos Party House, Bowery Ballroom {w/ a 6 piece band), Piano’s and tonight at SOB’s (a conrazon/remezcla event!).
Listen to this interview the guys did with KCRW‘s Raul Campos which aired on his show last night, along w/ Anita Tijoux. To hear the guys’ interview, go to 1:44 in the stream.

Also thought I’d highlight THIS LIVE VIDEO INTERVIEW they did w/ Remezcla Musica (you can even download their version of Gyptian’s ‘Hold Yuh’ riddim on the site too).
“A lot of people in Latin America still don’t understand…don’t understand us (…) We want to give them the raw and uncut, give them some soul music, what they’ve been missing. Our music is soul music. (…) So, we’re going to give them the visual and let them understand why this music is so important” – Raka Rich of Los Rakas
