Are you like me and have no clue what to do during CMJ these days? I’m following the music. Two awesome mujeres & their projects rock it tonight in Manhattan. Can’t wait to see Buscabulla & Xenia Rubinos!
WNYC called Puerto Rico via Brooklyn’s Buscabulla, “one of the most innovative bands” you’ll see during this week. We’ve had the privilege to see this project come to life over the last couple of years — from lead singer Raquel’s DJing days throughout NYC to taking the mic by the ovaries to do her thing with her talented partner and baby daddy, Luis — Buscabulla is ushering a tropical wave that’s not to be stopped. Read more about their beginnings in MTV Iggy. If you can’t see their set tonight at the Standard, they are also playing Output on Thursday [INFO] and Cameo Gallery on Saturday [INFO].
There is a theme here I’m rolling with of bad-ass duos, I see. It’s been over a year since I’ve seen Xenia Rubinos, yet I can still recall the feeling I had while seeing her intense and powerful show: quirky, bursting with energy and familiar. Since then, she’s been touring like a mad woman, doing all the right grind moves to keep it going. New to her? From her website: “Xenia’s sound grows from a wide range of influences from Caribbean rhythms and beat music to minimalism and indie rock all delivered with a soulful punk aura.” YES. She’s punk rock. She’s abuela organs. She’s intense beats. And she’s amazing. Info for tonight click here.
